Michael Phelps, Olympic Gold Medal Record Holder

The 27 year old swimmer from Team USA, now holds the most number of gold medals won in the Olympics.

Phelps won a gold in a Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay, Day 4 of the 2012 London Olympics. He now has 19 gold medals from different swimming events of the Olympics.

He also holds the record of most number of gold medals won in a single Olympics. Back in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, he won 8 golds medals from different events of swimming.

Today, with another gold under his name, he now holds the most number of gold medals. He surpassed the record holder Larisa Latynina, a gymnast from Soviet. Latynina has a total of 18 gold medals.
