China collected the first gold medal and now has 4 gold and 2 bronze medals for Day 1 of the 2012 London Olympics.

Came second for Day 1 is Italy, they have 5 medals, 2 gold, 2 silver, and a bronze. Two golds from archery, 1 silver from shooting and 1 from fencing, plus bronze medal from fencing again.
USA, Brazil, Rep. of Korea, Australia, Kazakhstan and Russian Federation also collected their gold medals for Day 1.
